Have you tried everything to figure out why you keep getting chronic headaches? You've spent thousands of dollars, been in all different kinds of doctor offices, and tried product after product, but you still feel like you're at square 1. I was that person a few years ago. I was hopeless, and things were just getting worse. In this blog post, I'm going to share with you how to get your hope back, so that you can get on the other side and ditch that stronghold those headaches have on you. You ready?
You're not at square 1
This is one of the biggest lies that kept me from having hope. And now I have a reframe that might be just what you need. The "dead end" was actually what lead you to make the next right move and get one step closer to healing. When I left a doctor office and didn't get many answers, I would feel like I wasted more money, more time, and wasn't any closer to getting rid of my headaches. But now I can see that wasn't true. When I look back, I can see that each bump in the road led me closer to the next thing I needed. One doctor wasn't able to figure out what was going on, but the conversations we had lit an idea in my head that helped me find another doctor that came at the problem from a different perspective. After each turn, I got a little bit closer to getting more answers revealed to me . It's not square 1, it's step 85...you just don't know how many steps there are....but step 85 is a heck of a lot closer than step 1.
Is your brain only reminding you of the negative?
Your brain likes to keep you safe, which means it doesn't want you to feel disappointed if you try something and it doesn't work out. So it might just remind you why things aren't working to prevent you from keeping on trying new things. But reflect on your journey, maybe you should even document it? I have a whole blog post on why I think blogging is one of the most underrated ways for documenting life, reflecting, and healing.
When I thought I was making some progress, but then had a rough week of headaches, I got back in my slump of feeling like nothing was working. But when I would look back on it, I was making proress. My headaches were 4 or 5 times a week instead of every day. I was noticing patterns in them. I did have a couple weeks where they weren't as bad. All of that is progress. Maybe small, but it was still progress. What progress have you made? Would writing about it be helpful? The more you write, the more you will start to remember too.
Could they be your superpower?
To be honest, I kind of view my headaches as a superpower now, lol (although, if I started getting them all the time again....I probably wouldn't think that). While annoying, they are my body's way of talking to me. When I get a headache, I know something is off and I start to investigate. Often times, I can tell when my hormones are a little bit out of wack just because I got a headache one day and they're not very common for me anymore. While they may be awful, annoying, and many other words I would like to describe them as, they also help me listen closely to my body and respond to what it needs. I mean, some people find out things are off in their body by much other drastic measures, so I'm grateful for this little yellow light sometimes so that I know to lean in and listen. It's clues to helping me know what's going on, and not everyone gets clues like that.
Don't lose hope
I say all of that with the understanding that headaches are so crippling, and not something I take lightly. They make you lose out on parts of your life, and they can take you into such an angry and defeated state. But I just wanted to remind you that healing is still possible. And it also may take a lot of time. It took me years to get to where I am today, and sometimes I will randomly get a headache that makes all my feels and worries come back. But when I remember the htings I mentioned above, I feel so much better. I hope it brings some of your hope back too.
Much love + I'm rooting for you,
Brittany ♡
