Blogging is more than just sharing tips

I started blogging because I wanted to share with other people things that I loved or things that helped me that I thought could be helpful and collapse pain/time/suffering for them, but it’s turned into so much more than that. I love it for how it can bless others, but I’m also realizing that I love it for how it documents my life, how it helps me reflect on life and shows me things that I might not have seen before. Maybe you’ve never thought of yourself as a writer....neither did I (I absolutely despised any literature classes in school), but maybe you never wrote just to write. If you’re considering blogging, journaling, or any form of writing, I think you might enjoy documenting your life to look back on one day.

Blogging collapses times for others

The really cool thing about writing online is that we can relate to others and bless others. Someone might need exactly what you wrote that day. Or that thing they’ve been struggling with….you gave them just the idea they needed to start giving them hope, or maybe even healing. It’s one of the coolest things about the internet. The things you’ve gone through can bless others, it will reciprocate, and you might also make some really cool online friends along the way.

Long-form content vs short-form content

Lately, I’ve been drawn to a lot more long-form content. I really like social media, but I have to be very intentional about using it and stewarding it well. Otherwise, it can feel like a fire-hydrant of great things that feel impossible to keep up with. But spending time on one thing for a while, or even reading/listening to someone’s else’s content for longer than 10 seconds, is something I have been loving more lately. It’s more soothing, and I like feeling like I’m friends with the people I choose to listen/read to for a while. I was recently listening to a podcast that talked about how she noticed her heart rate stayed more steady during long-form content, which I thought was super interesting. On the flip side of that, I really enjoy spending time reflecting on something going on in my life and writing about it for a bit. It's nice to sit and reflect, and write whatever comes to my mind, or the thing that God's been showing me lately.

Documentation is beautiful

I read this the other day and I just loved it….we remember better the things that we write down. I don’t know about you, but life feels so fast! I’m always wanting it to slow down and catch myself thinking about how I just want to freeze time (unless my child is screaming at the top of his lungs…those moments can gladly speed upツ). I notice how it’s kind of hard to remember life and all the things that have happened over my 28 years here. As I’ve been writing more, I’ve been remembering things I had forgotten, and I also now have a library of blogs whenever I want to look back on and remember the lessons I’ve learned, the fun days I’ve had, and the things that bring my heart joy. While I don’t like taking pictures of every meal (LOL), I understand the desire to want to document the things we love. Writing and taking pictures once in a while to document our lives is beautiful and helps us remember the things that make our heart light up. On top of that, your kids and grandkids will be able to see/read the things you did too. I’m creating videos with Luke in them right now thinking about how he’s going to be able to watch these when he’s older and I think that’s pretty cool.

Writing can be healing

The other thing I was reading about lately, was how writing can be really healing, or transformative. There’s times when I start blogging and I think I have a topic in mind, but then I go somewhere completely different, and I realize something I didn't know when I started. Or I start a blog and have a hard time finishing it, but then a few months later, God teaches me something, and now that blog turns into my journey of that lesson I learned over the last few months. I also love reading blogs I wrote a few years ago. I can see the person I was and am now. I love all versions of Brittany, but I’m always so proud of the one I’m continually growing into

Maybe you just want to journal at night in a notebook. Maybe you want to start blogging, but you’re not ready to share it with others. Whatever it looks like, I think documenting can be a beautiful part of your life. It all goes so fast, and I love doing things that help me savor the things I love, reflect on things I've learned, and have gratitude throughout every season. Blogging is so much more than sharing the latest tips you've learned.

Much love and I’m rooting for you,

Brittany
