Non-Toxic Laundry Room Favs

I've spent the last few years trying to switch to more natural products in our home and I want to share some of my current favorites for the laundry room...hopefully it will save you some time and money ツ

Laundry Soap/Fabric Softener:

  • Truly Free - I've tried them all and I feel ehhh/neutral about all the natural laundry soaps, but this one is a GAME-CHANGER! I am not a pro on ingredients but the few I do know to watch out for, it doesn't have and a lot of natural-minded people that I follow have recommended this stuff and I'm obsessed with it. Their scented version is scented with essential oils, but they also have an unscented version.

  • Vinegar - With stinky clothes, I will often add some vinegar into the fabric softener slot in the washing machine along with the laundry soap. Vinegar helps with smells, makes clothes softer, and helps with static, so it's a win-win-win.

Dryer Sheets:

  • Seventh Generation Dryer Sheets - Not a super clean option, but a much better option than most dryer sheets! I also get them from Thrive Market and they have other options you could check out too. Full disclaimer - I still keep a box of the real toxic dryer sheets that I use once in a while if I can't handle the static ツ

  • Wool Dryer Balls - I have a love-hate relationship with these, lol. I love how they are a million times healthier for you than dryer sheets, but I hate how some loads always have static with them, no matter what I try. I think a lot of it has to do with our hard water too. I do have some tips below to help with the static and I'm all ears if you have any other ideas. My favorite essential oils to put on these before sticking them in the dryer are purification, lemon, and/or lemongrass.

Stain Remover:

  • I have been so impressed with the Stain Stick from Truly Free. It's been my diaper blowout go-to and it's by far my favorite! This brand makes some amazing products!

  • Miss Mouth's Stain Remover - I haven't tried this yet, but I've heard great things about it for on the go, it's currently in my Amazon cart ツ

Some questions I have gotten:

  • What do you use if you don't bleach your whites? First of all, I've never bleached my clothes (or anything for that matter, lol). I've never felt like I have needed to, but if you do, Truly Free makes a whitener that I'm sure is amazing! Ditch the bleach - it wrecks your immune system (not to mention it can kill you...like there's no need to inhale that or be using it at all) and I promise you can sanitize, clean, and whiten just as well without it.

  • What about static with the dryer balls? I have a few things that I have been told many times, so I would try all of these things: dry on low heat, do not over dry, and you can attach safety pins to the dryer balls. I've honestly tried all those things and I still get static on certain things like fleece, and I've just resorted to using dryer sheets because I can't stand the static sometimes. Hard water is also a big culprit. Truly Free also has a Wrinkle & Static Releaser that I'm tempted to try out soon!

  • Do you clean your washer? I have! I currently love the washing machine cleaner from Truly Free.

  • What about getting strong smells out of clothes? If you buy second-hand clothes or just have some clothes that always seem to have a smell...I'd highly recommend laundry stripping. Maybe I should do a blog post about this in the future ツ

Tell me what your favorites are, I'm always down to try other things!

Much Love,

Brittany ♡
