How to laundry strip and when it can be helpful

Updated: Mar 20

Anyone else get second-hand clothes but have a hard time with the strong smell? Maybe you have a little one that's extra sensitive to chemicals or even has allergies. Enter in: LAUDRY STRIPPING - your new laundry BFF. I had heard about this a few times but what really made me take the leap to try this out was noticing a musty smell on my clothes that I wear constantly and was not quite ready to part ways with yet ツ In this blog post, I will answer all your questions on laundry stripping including when/why it would be helpful for you, the details on how to do it, and and making it as simple as possible for us busy wives and mothers.

ALL THE DEETS 🧺

WHY?

If your clothes get a musty smell over time that won’t go away or you recently ditched the toxic detergent/dryer sheets and are wanting to strip away the harmful residue on them….this will help strip that away! Especially my non-toxic lovers that also love a good bargain with second-hand clothes, this will be a game-changer for the clothes you bring home! Think about it as removing all the build up on your clothes...which I know seems weird because you wash your clothes, but (as I recently found out) dryer sheets/laundry detergent residue, body oils, dirt, etc. all builds up over time.

FUN FACT:

If you switch to natural detergent, you might notice your clothes have a worse smell than before because fragrance-filled detergents are really strong and cover up those smells easily. If you remove the cover up, the smell will obviously be more noticeable.ツ But don't worry! There's another way to help us get rid of that smell (instead of just covering it up) and it's not damaging to your health! Win-win if you ask me.

HOW?

Are you convinced and want to get straight to the details of how to laundry strip? Here's the 3 easy steps! And make sure to SAVE this to your Pinterest board to easily reference it on the day you want to laundry strip!

1 - Fill a tub with HOT water and add the below ingredients

+ 1 cup washing soda (this is not the same as baking soda)

+ 3 capfuls thieves cleaner

+ Optional: I have heard that dumping in a bottle of hydrogen peroxide is a great way to get rid of any stains too!

2 - submerge your clothes for 8-10ish hours and stir them around occasionally

3 - when time is up, wring them out, take them to the laundry room, and wash them on a rinse and spin cycle (just because your clothes will still be pretty wet and my washing machine got confused and kept running until I turned it to rinse + spin, lol) and dry like normal (I'd recommend trying to avoid dryer sheets when drying if you can and sticking to dryer balls, it's less toxic and will help keep the build up off)

THAT'S IT! 3 EASY STEPS! AND YES THAT'S LITERALLY MY WATER AFTER LAUNDRY STRIPPING ツ I'm a little bit embarrassed by it!

WHAT YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW:

Digize essential oil and thieves fruit and veggie wash both have some powerful enzymes for helping break down all that junk that’s stuck to your clothes.

You will be throughly GROSSED out and SATISFIED at the same time, LOL ツ
