For those pesky infected hangnails....

Updated: Jun 17, 2023

I got the WORST infected toenail....it was painful just walking on it. I have had those ones that go away after putting some hydrogen peroxide on them for a couple days, but goodness gracious, I was debating on if I needed to go to the doctor for this one. It was so bad. I'll spare you pictures of it, but let me tell you that about half of my big toe was red, swollen, and full of some nasty stuff. It's totally back to normal now, which blows my mind...and I was able to heal it all on my own with some suggestions from others!

*Update - my husband had a similar one that was just as bad, if not worse and we did the same protocol and he was shocked at how well it worked! He doesn't complain much when he's in pain and he was also considering going to the doctor (I've known him for like 10 years and he's never been to the doctor). So cool to have these options to try first before resorting to other (more aggressive and more expensive) options!

Here's what I did:

+ I used hydrogen peroxide on it about once a day

+ I got a big bowl and put a little soap in the bottom (this helps mix the oils in otherwise they just stay at the top of the water) and mixed in thieves oil and melrose oil. Then I added epson salt and filled it with hot water (I probably did about 1/2 cup epson salt, and a few drops of each oil....remember to mix the oils and soap first)

+ I soaked my feet in that (I did both feet because why not....more goodness is getting into your body...honestly if you did this every day, you'd probably never get sick, lol) at least twice a day, but I tried to do this 3 times a day for about 15 minutes each time, especially at first when my toe would not stop throbbing

+ If you want an extra punch, after soaking, I would put a drop of tea tree oil and oregano oil all around the infected and swollen part of my toe and rub that in (you might want to dilute if you're new to oils/more sensitive)

+ I CONSISTENTLY did this for about 2 weeks. I didn't think it was going to get better, and I almost lost hope, but after about a week, I FINALLY started seeing some progress. That's the things about natural remedies...they take time and they don't work if you don't allow them the time they need to work. They also need consistency. It's not excedrin, which is meant to work instantly. It's going to work with your body, which is slow, and gentle on your body, but also needs continual exposure. Like I said, this was the worst I've ever had, so I would hope you would see improvement sooner than me (my husband's cleared up in a couple days)!

If you don't have all these oils, use the ones you have. There are also lots of other great ones too. You can't really go wrong!

The best part? I didn't have to go to the doctor, nor did I have to worry about taking antibiotics - those suckers wreck the bad guys, but also the good guys that keep you healthy and some of the good guys never return....I want to keep those good guys as long as I canツ

Much love,

Brittany ♡
