Luke turns 1 and I'm reflecting on all that I've been encouraged by in the last 12 months

Lukey is 1! In honor of him being a whopping 12 months old, I thought about 12 encouragements I wish someone would have told me pre-Lukey ♡

Before I share those, here's some of my favorite things from the last month.

The name Luke means - "bright one" or "bringer of light" and that couldn't be more true for this sweet (and crazy) boy. He knows how to light up a room and make anyone smile.

Some of my favorite things from this month:

  • Luke learned how to dance and bounces up and down when there's some good jams on

  • He drops everything when someone says "Bye" and starts waving

  • He got super loved on by all kinds of family from near and far for his first birthday

  • I think the screaming has gone from 90% of the day to about 60% of the day, so I'll call that a win, lol

  • He's obsessed with anything soft. He loves his cozy blankets, and this blanket-dog that he sleeps with every night/nap.

  • He's learned to say''uh-oh" when something falls or when someone purposely drops things on the ground

Without further ado, here's 12 joyful thoughts I've been reflecting on that I wish I would have known pre-Lukey!

  1. The things that seem impossible now, will feel possible when they get here. When you need it, God grows your strength, patience, and capacity. And sometimes, it's a supernatural ability that is unexplainable.

  2. A better day always follows a hard day

  3. Your job isn’t to understand God’s plan. Your job is to be faithful with what He's given you, and He takes care of the rest. "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you." Psalm 32:8

  4. Your life isn’t over, it’s leveling up. Just like if you were to upgrade your house, you'll probably be sad and miss the old one (anyone else get attached to things or just me?), but you also have so much joy around the new one. It's okay to grieve the life you know and love, but also hold onto the feeling that the love and joy you're going to feel is deeper than anything you've experienced so far.

  5. You weren’t meant to be the perfect parent….that’s annoying ツ You’ve never been a parent before. How would you talk to your bestie if they were doing something new and challenging? Talk to yourself the same way. It's an honor to parent God’s children, but you weren’t given that blessing because you’re perfect. I'd argue it's the opposite....because you’re imperfect, willing to try, and get it wrong.

  6. God can do more with a heart of humility.

  7. It’s really easy to look left and right, but I feel the most at peace when I listen to my intuition and pray my little heart out.

  8. You’ll need God more than ever before and I think that might be the whole point.

  9. If you think you never get a break, you’re right. If you think you get breaks, you’re right. The battle of your mind, might be the most important battle you fight each day. It takes work, but it's life-giving work.

  10. Spend money on things that make your days easier and bring you joy.

  11. Expecting interruptions allows for more joy in your day. I always have to remind myself that I might only have 10 minutes for one task before I get interrupted, but that's more than 0 minutes. I show up with the time that I have, and am faithful to the tasks I have, but I try to let myself off the mat if my one task takes me 2 weeks instead of 2 hours. Luke 18:16 says “But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” The work you’re doing can always be stopped for the most important work were trusted with.

  12. Talk to God about everything. Your highs, and your lows. Your worries, your desires, your frustrations, and your excitements. You could talk to yourself, but you have access to the best listener, most peaceful, and joyful being so might as well talk to Him instead? ツ
